SoftAcid P+

SoftAcid P+ is a patented mixture of propionic acid and modified lignosulphonic acids. This special combination considerably reduces the aggressiveness of propionic acid.

In comparison with pure propionic acid, SoftAcid P+ is only slightly corrosive and does not cause chemical burns in case of contact with the skin. SoftAcid P+ is not classified as a hazardous material.

Advantages of SoftAcid P+:

  • Strongly inhibits mould
  • 95% less corrosive than pure propionic acid
  • Good taste
  • Does not cause chemical burns
  • Not a hazardous material
  • Low pH value
  • Less wear in warehouses, dosing and mixing plants, and stall equipment
  • Improvement of the working conditions for grain preservation
  • Lower steam pressure and thus lower acid losses in the crop

Recommended Dosage

For the acidification of grain (whole grains), we recommend dosages according to the following table:

Recommended Uses

  • Do not mix SoftAcid P+ with other acids or chemicals!
  • Clean the grain before preservation.
  • Existing dosing technology can be used insofar as it is acid-resistant and the recommended use of SoftAcid P+ is taken into consideration.
  • For new acquisitions, contact the manufacturers of dosing technology.
  • The pump must always be filled and should never run dry!
  • Attach the non-return valve to the suction area to prevent pump from running empty and thus interrupting the dosing procedure.
  • Coarse-mesh base filter (approx. 3 mm) on suction pipe.
  • If present, remove the fine filter from the main filter.
  • In comparison to pure propionic acid, SoftAcid P+ has a higher viscosity (7 – 10 mPas at 20˚C). For this reason, the capacity of the dosing unit should be gauged before the use of SoftAcid P+. In case of temperature fluctuations of more than 5˚C, the capacity of the dosing unit should be regauged to achieve the optimum application amount.
  • Optimum application angle of the screw: 40 – 45 degrees.
  • The mixing distance must amount to at least 3 m.
  • For trough screws, at least four mixing elements must be installed along a length of 2 m.
  • Nozzle size: approx. 3 mm (enlarge existing nozzles if required).
  • A course spray is advantageous.
  • Nozzle pressure: approx. 2 bar.
  • Remove the overrun protector from the nozzles (balls) and attach a ball valve to cut off the nozzle connection if required.
  • 40 t maximum preservation amount per hour.
  • Thoroughly rinse the dosing unit and nozzles with water after every use, if possible with hot water. For preservation breaks during the day, do not let the pump run empty; that is, the pump should remain filled with SoftAcid P+.
  • After preservation, rinse the grain feed screw several times with untreated grain.
